Recommendation Forms

February 19, 2007

When applying to college, it is common for teacher and guidance counselor recommendations to be a part of the admissions process.  I never thought I would ever see a recommendation form to apply to kindergarten or first grade.  But the Friends’ Central School in Philadelphia, PA has a “Confidential Common Recommendation Form” on their web site and describes their use in the application process.  How can someone assess whether a prospective pre-kindergarten student “is attentive” or whether “completes tasks” or “follows directions”.  If recommenders honestly fill out this form, one might expect the school to have difficulty finding any qualified students to fill its classes.
