Blogging from within Microsoft Word 2007

January 12, 2007

Having recently upgraded to Microsoft’s newest Office suite, I thought it would be worthwhile to explore some of its new features. One that seems like it will be extremely useful is the built-in blogging functionality in Word 2007. The software remembers the credentials that are required to make new posts on my blog, and allows me to compose and publish entries (with images, if I desire) entirely from within Word. This will be a big time saver — no more writing my posts in Word, selecting everything, copying, alt-tabbing over to Internet Explorer, and pasting into my blog editor webpage. Furthermore, I can take advantage of all the relevant Word features while I write, such as the spelling and grammar checking checkers and the SmartArt feature that was introduced in Office 2007.

Using SmartArt will allow me to express complicated ideas visually without having to labor with Photoshop for hours. For example, I was able to create this graphic showing the components that will make up the material for this blog.
